Singing? To benefit people with Parkinson’s disease? It just may help, a researcher says.”We’re not trying to make them better singers, but to help them strengthen the muscles that control swallowing and respiratory function, said Elizabeth Stegemoller, an assistant professor of kinesiology at Iowa State University.

Singing uses the same muscles as swallowing and breathing control, two functions affected by Parkinson’s disease. Singing significantly improves the muscle activities. Other benefits noted by patients, their families and caregivers include improvements in mood, stress and depression.

Parkinson‘s disease is a chronic and progressive movement disorder. Nearly one million Americans live with the disease. The cause isn’t known, and there is no cure at present. But there are treatment options such as medication and surgery to manage symptoms, according to the Parkinson‘s Disease Foundation.

Symptoms can include tremors of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face; slowness of movement; limb rigidity; and problems with balance and coordination.

Smoking: Smoking causes the blood vessels to narrow, resulting in higher blood pressure. Smoking also reduces the blood’s oxygen content so the heart has to pump faster in order to compensate, causing a rise in blood pressure.

Alcohol intake: People who drink regularly have higher systolic blood pressure than people who do not, according to researchers. They found that systolic blood pressure levels are about 7 mmHg higher in frequent drinkers than in people who do not drink.

Mental stress: Various studies have offered compelling evidence that mental stress, especially over the long term, can have a serious impact on blood pressure. One study suggested thatthe way that air traffic controllers handle stress can affect whether theyare at risk of developing high blood pressure later in life.

Diabetes: People with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing hypertension. Among patients with type 1 diabetes, high blood sugar is a risk factor for incident hypertension – effective and consistent blood sugar control, with insulin, reduces the long-term risk of developing hypertension.

Psoriasis: A study that followed 78,000 women for 14 years found that having psoriasis was linked to a higher risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes. Psoriasis is an immune system condition that appears on the skin in the form of thick, red scaly patches.

Pregnancy: Pregnant women have a higher risk of developing hypertension than women of the same age who are not pregnant. It is the most common medical problem encountered during pregnancy, complicating 2% to 3% of all pregnancies.

Not many would know that High Blood Pressure (HBP) is also refer to as Hypertension (HTN or HT) many think this two are different from each other whereas they are both the same in definitions. I would define Hypertension to as the end result of High Blood Pressure.

Hypertension (HTN or HT), also known as High Blood Pressure (HBP), is along-termmedical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.

Hypertension is the most important preventable risk factor for premature death worldwide. Many people have High Blood Pressure and don’t know it. The American Heart Association estimates high blood pressure affects approximately one in three adults in the United States, or about 76.4 million people. High Blood Pressure has become the second most common reason for medical office visits in the United States.

As of 2014, approximately one billion adults or ~22% of the population of the world have Hypertension. It is slightly more frequent in men, in those of low socioeconomic status, and prevalence increases with age. It is common in high, medium and low income countries. In Europe hypertension occurs in about 3045% of people as of 2013. In 1995 it was estimated that 43 million people (24% of the population) in the United States had hypertension or were taking anti-hypertensive medication. By 2004 this had increased to 29% and further to 34% (76 million US adults) by 2006. African American adults in the United States have among the highest rates of hypertension in the world at 44%. It is also more common in Filipino Americans and less common in US whites and Mexican Americans.

Types Of High Blood Pressure

There are two main types of high blood pressure: primary and secondary High Blood Pressure.




Primary or Essential High Blood Pressure

Primary, or essential, High Blood Pressure is the most common type of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure tends to develop over years as a person ages. In as many as 95% of reported High Blood Pressure cases in the U.S. and worldwide the underlying cause cannot be determined. Essential Hypertension is also greatly influenced by diet and lifestyle. The link between salt and high blood pressure is especially compelling. By contrast, people who add no salt to their food show virtually no traces of essential Hypertension.

The majority of all people with High Blood Pressure are “salt sensitive,” meaning that anything more than the minimal bodily need for salt is too much for them and increases their blood pressure. Other factors that can raise the risk of having essential hypertension include obesity; diabetes; stress; insufficient intake of potassium, calcium, and magnesium; lack of physical activity; and chronic alcohol consumption. The possible role of other factors such as caffeine consumption, and vitamin D deficiency are less clear.

Secondary High Blood Pressure

Secondary High Blood Pressure is caused by another medical condition or use of certain medicines. So we say when a direct cause for high blood pressure can be identified, the condition is now described as Secondary Hypertension.

How do you detect High Blood Pressure?

Unless your blood pressure is super-high, you won’t know unless it is measured. If blood pressure is very high, it can give you symptoms such as headaches. But usually you only know it’s ‘up‘ because it has been checked. Healthy adults should have a blood pressure check at least from the age of 40. It will be checked regularly at a younger age in conditions such as diabetes mellitus, pregnancy or kidney diseases. It will be checked more frequently (every 612 months) as you get older.

Could Common Vitamin Supplements Raise Lung Cancer Risk In Male Smokers?

Men, and especially male smokers, appear to be more likely to develop lung cancer if they take high doses of vitamins B6 and B12, new research suggests. For men taking these vitamin supplements, the risk of lung cancer was nearly doubled. For men who smoked, the risk was between three and four times higher, the study found.
High-dose of B6 and B12 supplements should not be taken for lung cancer prevention, especially in men, and they may cause harm in male smokers. 

However, the study wasn’t designed to prove cause-and-effect between the vitamins and lung cancer; it only showed an association. It’s also not clear why only men and current male smokers seem to face an extra risk.
Most people get enough vitamin B6 through their diets, according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Some people with certain health conditions may need supplements.

As for vitamin B12, the NIH reports that most people get enough from their diet. But some groups — such as older people and vegetarians — may be deficient and need supplements. The vitamin may also cause interactions with medications.
Dietary sources of vitamin B6 and B12 include fortified cereals and foods that are high in protein.

A new study that included more than 77,000 adults, aged 50 to 76. The participants were recruited from 2000 to 2002, and answered questions about their vitamin use over the previous 10 years.

The researchers found that just over 800 of the study volunteers developed lung cancer over an average follow-up of six years.

The study found no sign of a link between folate (a type of B vitamin) and lung cancer risk. And vitamin B6 and B12 supplements didn’t seem to affect risk in women.

However, it’s found that men who took more than 20 milligrams per day of B6 averaged over 10 years had an 82 percent increased risk of lung cancer relative to men who did not take supplemental B vitamins from any source.

Men who took more than 55 micrograms per day of B12 had a 98 percent increased lung cancer risk relative to men who did not take B vitamins.

Men who smoked at the beginning of the study period and consumed high levels of the B vitamins were three to four times more likely to develop lung cancer.

B6 which is typically sold in 100 mg (milligram) tablets. B12 is often sold between 500 mcg (microgram) and 3,000 mcg tablets.

In contrast, most multivitamins include 100 percent of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance, which is under 2 mg per day for B6 and 2.4 mcg per day for B12. People should really ask themselves if they need over 1,200 times the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of a substance.

The study doesn’t conclusively link higher doses of the vitamins to higher rates of lung cancer. If there is a connection, it’s not clear how the vitamins might influence the cancer risk, but may have something to do with how the vitamins interact with male sex hormones.

There is clearly no evidence that these vitamins have any substantial protective effect on smokers. Smokers taking these vitamins should quit smoking due to a higher risk of lung cancer from higher doses of vitamins.
There’s a strong belief that vitamins would never harm you. As in much of nutrition, the story is more complicated than that.

Marijuana May Help Ease Nerve Pain, Review Finds

Marijuana maybe slightly effective at reducing chronic nerve pain known as neuropathy. But there’s little evidence on whether or not pot helps treat other types of pain or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a pair of new studies suggests.
Medical marijuana is legal in almost all states in the united States including the District of Columbia for certain medical purposes. Some states may have laws that haven’t yet been implemented, according to NORML, a pro-marijuana legalization group.

But research into the medical uses of marijuana remains controversial. Plus, it’s difficult for scientists to study the drug because it is illegal on the federal level.

However, some research has found positive results. Earlier this year, the National Academy of Sciences released a report saying there is conclusive or substantial scientific evidence that marijuana is effective at treating chronic pain, calming muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, and easing nausea from chemotherapy.

The new reviews into pain and PTSD were commissioned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The department refused to allow the authors of the reviews to be interviewed to discuss the findings.
For the review of research into chronic nerve pain and marijuana, the researchers examined 27 studies. The investigators determined that there’s “low strength” evidence that marijuana can help nerve pain. But there’s just not enough reliable research to come to a conclusion about whether marijuana is useful for other types of pain, the study authors determined.

The researchers also looked at 32 studies and 11 reviews of research on side effects. They noted several potential risks of marijuana use such as car accidents, psychotic symptoms and short-term cognitive impairment.
However, the review noted that research into risks and side effects is limited.

The researchers said their findings may have “limited applicability to older, chronically ill populations and patients who use cannabis heavily.
Just because states list certain conditions for which medical cannabis can be prescribed does not mean there is strong or rigorous scientific data supporting its use.
Patients should be  aware of potential benefits, and also potential harms before taking this hard drugs.

At the first article we discuss on two things you need to achieve a Six-Pack goal:

1. Lose fat and

2. Build muscle

It takes dedication, time and patience to get a six pack. You will get this by dieting and exercising consistently. You can have the most toned and muscular abs, but it will not show if there is a layer of fat over them. This article will discuss ways in whichyou can achieve both of these goals.

BUILDING AB MUSCLES

1. Do Sit Ups

Lie on the floor, feet on the floor, knees up and hands crossed on your chest. Have somebody hold your feet down, or wedge them underneath something heavy. Sit all the way up, lifting your lower back off the floor along with your shoulder blades. Keep your back straight (no hunching). Lower yourself down.

REPEAT.

*.Once this becomes relatively easy for you (i.e. you can do aquite a bit with ease) start adding more challenges. Find an incline bench. Do weighted sit ups. Hold a weight on your chest while you do these. As these become easier, hold heavier and heavier weights.

2 Do Crunches.

Lie on the floor (with or without a mat) with your arms in front of your chestor with your hands lightly touching your temples (never behind your head). Bend your knees. Raise your shoulders (upper torso) towards your knees, using strictly your abdominal muscles.

*.It is very important tonotlift your entire back off the floor, as this can cause back strain. Additionally, the extended movement does not help you develop six pack abs any faster.

*.The most important part of the crunch is the initial flexing of your abs as you lift your shoulders off the floor. Concentrate on lifting up more than curling forward. As soon as you begin lifting off the floor, exhale through your mouth and end with your shoulders are off the floor.

*.Pause for a second once you are at the top of the crunch and exhale the last bit of air from your diaphragm while flexing your abs. Lower back down slowly and controlled while inhaling through your nose, just until your shoulder blades touch the ground. Do not let your head touch the ground.

3 Do Leg Lifts.

Lie on the floor, legs straight out, hands at your sides. Lift your legs straight up (not bending your knees at all) until they’re at a 90 degree angle (or close). Lower your legs and repeat without letting your legs touch the floor.

*.For more of a challenge, use a parallel bar at a gym to raise yourself up using your arms as support and dangle your legs.

*.Easy: Just raise your knees to your chest.

*.Medium: Raise your legs to a horizontal position with your legs straight and outstretched. This helps firm up the lower abdomen.

*.Hard: If you’re truly a monster, try doing leg lifts with a medicine ball hanging from your feet. Or, hang from a pull up bar and raise your legs in front of you all the way up to the bar, keeping your legs straight.

4 Do Jackknife Sit Ups.

Lie down flat with your back on the floor.Place your hands on the ground to your sides for balance; you can pick them up as you get used to the movement. Simultaneously raise your knees and torso so that your knees and face meet on an imaginary line extending from your pelvis to the ceiling. You should be able to kiss your knees at the top of the motion. Your legs will naturally fold, bringing your feet towards your hips, much like a jackknife. Lie back down (i.e. “spread out“) and repeat.

5 Do Static Holds (Planks).

Put your body into the push-up position but with your elbows on the floor, and your whole body flat. This position is also known as the plank, and it trains your core (including your abs) to hold the body in place. Hold this position for as long as possible.

*.Beginners should be aiming to start off with at least 45 seconds, while seasoned ab workers are known to achieve over 5 minute static holds.

*.To perform the side static hold, roll onto one side of your body and lift into the same position as before. This time, only one arm should be on the ground, with the other arm pointed straight up the air and your non weight-bearing leg resting on your bottom leg. Once again, hold this for as long as possible.

6 Train Your Oblique Muscles.

It’s not as important to work onyour oblique muscles at first, but eventually you’ll want to start working these too. These are the muscles on either side of your stomach. There are multiple ways to do this and anything that includes twisting your torso against a resistance counts. There are twisting machines at gyms; you can twist while you do sit-ups; you can do side bends; you can twist side to side with a medicine ball in hand, etc. Be aware though, that many beginners tend to have weak obliques compared to their abs (it simply isn’t used as much in daily life) so go easy on the sides at first.

7 Do Pull-ups Hanging From A Horizontal Bar.

You will be amazed at the number of muscles around your stomach working with pull-ups. Do 5 pull-ups with your palms facingaway from you and 5 pull-ups with your palms facing towards you. This will also build your lats and biceps at the same time.

*.Add complex core-movements to your workout. That will boost your overall body constitution tremendously. For example, combine push-ups with rows. Go into a push-up position on two dumbbells. Now don’t do a push-up, but instead start to row alternating dumbbells. See how much power you need only to hold balance? Combine exercises! Be creative.

8 Do Dragon flags.

It is also known as reverse crunches, and it is the most extreme form of abdominal exercises, Bruce Lee and Sylvester Stallone have done this great workout. Lie on your back on a bench or bed, place your hands behind your head and hold onto the edge of the bench or bed. Balancing on the back of your shoulder blades and not applying full pressure on the back of your neck, tighten your abs like bracing yourself for a punch along with your legs and butt. Raise your legs and lower back off the surface and bring it down to 45 degree angle, not letting your butt touch the surface. Do not bend your hips when raising or declining.
Note

This type of move places extreme strain on the neck and may be harmful, especially if done with poor form.

9 Train Your Entire Core.

To build really great abs it’s helpful understand what abs do. Their full name is “rectus abdominis. The “rectus” bit is Latin for “straight, proper, upright.” Contrary to popular opinion, the abdominals’ primary job is not to curl you up into a ball, but rather to work together with the back muscles to maintain correct posture and stabilization. Some of the best exercises for abs are ones that force your entire core to go into over drive to support your spine. Some exercises that do this are squats and deadlifts.

CONCLUSION

Make sure you give yourself an adequate amount of rest (Seven to nine hours for adults, and 810 hrs for kids and teenagers). When exercising you actually break down the muscle which needs proper time to heal (and eat the proper foods) they will grow back stronger than before.

Also make sure towarm upbefore exercising. It may help to use a record-keeper or plan book for yourexercise program. Exercise journals are fantastic for this purpose because as you enter daily information in the journal, you’re putting together a complete record that can be referred back toin the future.

One of the biggest reasons we use apple cider vinegar is because it absorbs transdermally through the skin where it then helps to dissolve calcium deposits in the scalp. Reducing scalp calcification (i.e. deposits of calcium in the scalp) is crucially important for regrowing hair because the calcification makes it almost impossible to reestablish blood supply to the hair follicles. And when it comes to regrowing lost hair, blood supply is the ‘golden pillar.’ It is the thing that matters most.
